PERMANENT MAKE UP FAQ

What is permanent make up?

Permanent make up is cosmetic tattoo technique that creates natural looking brows and lips by delivering organic pegment into the top layer of the skin using very fine needles.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

For best results and recovery you should follow the below pretreatment advise.

  • Avoid Botox, fillers, glycolic acid, chemical peels, laser treatments, retinal and anti aging creams around the treatment area for 30 days prior to the procedure.

  • Avoid all facials, bleaching treatments, waxing and extensive sun exposure around the treatment area for 2 weeks prior to the procedure.

  • Avoid Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen (Tylenol/Acetaminophen is ok to consume), fish oils, DHA supplements, cayenne supplements, turmeric, vitamin e, niacin (or anything that can cause blood thinning), marijuana and smoking for 1 week prior to the procedure. If any of theses are taken for medical purposes, please consult with your physician.

  • Keep your lips well hydrated with a good lip balm for a week before the procedure.

  • If you have ever had a cold sore, been prone to any type of cold sores (herpes simplex virus) or you may have the herpes simplex virus that lies dormant in your system, this procedure could cause an outbreak. It is best to consult with your doctor and upon your doctor’s recommendation, take doctor-prescribed medication such as Acyclovir, Zovirax, or Valtrex before and after the lip procedure to help prevent or lessen the severity of an outbreak.

  • Avoid alcohol (especially red wine), coffee or tea (1/2 cup is ok, drink decaffeinated) or excessive amounts of caffeine for 2 days prior to your procedure.

  • Gently exfoliate your lips 2 days prior to your procedure (you could use sugar and coconut oil mixture for a natural exfoliate)

  • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water (the first sign of dehydration is dry lips) for 3 days prior to your procedure.

  • Avoid intense physical activity (light yoga and walking are ok) on the day of your procedure.

  • You can wear your normal makeup on the day of your procedure

  • It's encouraged to bring photos of shapes, shades and finishes you like to your appointment. For lip blushing you could also bring your favorite day lipstick.

  • You will ne asked to complete a consultation form prior to your procedure, You can downloads consultation form here.

What will happen during my appointment?

First, your technician will will review your consultation for and discuss and concerns. The treatment area will then be cleaned and propped for the procedure including application of numbing balm. Next you will look at colours, and recommendations will be provided to assist with your final selection. The treatment areas will be marked up using precise techniques to create a better shape, and correct any asymmetry that you may have. You will will be asked to ensure you are happy with the shape before the procedure starts. Finally the technician will begin to implant the pigment into the skin using a delicate shading and/or brushstroke technique. Numbing balm will be applied regularly throughout as required.  To finish you will be given aftercare instructions on how to look after your new Lip Blush, and an aftercare balm will be applied to sooth your freshly tattooed lips.

Does permanent make up hurt?

Whilst PMU isn't completely pain free, most clients find it very manageable. Numbing cream is applied prior to and throughout treatment to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

How long does it take?

We allow upto 3 hours for our appointments including consultation so our clients do not feel rushed and have plenty of time to ask questions and discuss options.

What aftercare should I follow?

For best results and recovery the following aftercare advice should be followed for 2 weeks after treatment.

  • Keep treated area dry and free from beauty products (eg - moisturisers and make up).

  • For lip treatments drink through a straw and avoid spicy foods. It is advised to brush teeth with just water for first 72 hours.

  • You may see fluid or ooze on the skin from lymph secretion. Clean gently with warm water and non-alcohol soap at least twice a day. Blot completely dry.

  • You will be provided with post treatments ointments that should be applied sparingly twice a day with a cotton swap or clean hands. Continue for 7 days.

  • Avoid touching, scratching or picking any flaking or scabbing as this may cause colour to prematurely fade.

  • Avoid any activities that may increase sweating such as exercise of sport for a minimum of 2 weeks.

  • Do not swim, sauna, steam room or jacuzzi for a minimum of 2 weeks. Do not have hot baths (warm is fine)

  • Avoid expose to UV/UVA rays for 2 weeks (sun and tanning beds).

  • Do not use any laser or chemical treatments or peelings or bleaching near the treatment area

  • Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds.

  • If you have any concerns you should notify Kaylor Kosmetics or a medical practitioner for advice.

What happens during the recovery and how long until I see final results?

Days 1-2: Area may be tender and swollen and colour will look very intence.

Days 3-5: Area begins to flake and scab and may be very itchy.

Days 6-10: Flaking and scabbing will gradually stop and colour will fade very light.

Days 11-28: Colour will start to return and settle into it's final shade.

How long does permanent make up last?

The treatment is semi permanent because we all, eventually, shed our epidermal skin layers, leaving a faint trace of pigment in the reticular layer. People shed the epidermal layers at different rates impacted by alcohol intake and smoking, sun exposure, beauty products and skin type. Generally PMU will last upto 3 years however we recommend annual colour boost to keep your colour topped up long term.
